San Diego County is 3.3 million people across 18 cities and a big swath of unincorporated back-country. The active markets for dumpster work cluster in three zones: the city of San Diego itself, North County (Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, Escondido, San Marcos), and South Bay (Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach). We cover all three plus the in-between (La Mesa, Santee, Poway, El Cajon, Lakeside) with same-day delivery on most calls before noon.
San Diego construction has been dominated lately by ADU additions (a single-family home in San Diego can now legally have an ADU plus a Junior ADU on most lots) and biotech and life-sciences build-outs in Sorrento Valley, Torrey Pines, and the UTC corridor. Both categories generate steady roll-off volume.
One call, two jobs. Need a porta potty for the crew? Bundle it with the dumpster on the same delivery and save 12% on the restroom. Ask the rep when you call.
San Diego County Doesn't Wait. Neither Should You.
Tight margins, tight schedules, weather windows that close fast. Here is what we hear most.
Crew Standing Around
San Diego trade rates are $48 to $58/hr. Four guys waiting on a bin = $200/hr lost. Bin pays for itself in 2 hours.
Coastal Permit Drag
City of San Diego, Coronado, Del Mar, Solana Beach all run slower ROW permits than inland cities. Plan 4 to 8 business days.
Wildfire Surge
East County (Alpine, Lakeside, Ramona) sees recurring fire seasons. Witch, Cedar, Cocos — every fire generates months of follow-on debris work.
Tijuana-Adjacent Logistics
Otay Mesa and South Bay fulfillment centers are growing. Same logistics squeeze as the IE — tight build schedules, heavy commercial bin demand.

San Diego County dumpster permits, by city
San Diego County permits split between city jurisdictions and the unincorporated county. Each city handles its own encroachment permit; the county handles everything outside city limits.
San Diego (City)
City of San Diego encroachment permits run 4 to 8 business days. Fee around $190. Coastal Zone areas (La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach) have additional Coastal Commission review.
Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar
North County coastal cities. Permits 3 to 6 business days. Fees $130 to $200. Bins on PCH-adjacent streets often denied outright.
Chula Vista, National City, Imperial Beach
South Bay. Faster permits (2 to 3 business days), $80 to $110.
El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Lemon Grove
East County cities. 2 to 3 business days, $70 to $100. Some Lakeside back-country addresses fall under unincorporated county.
Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, Poway
Inland North County. Standard 2 to 4 business days, $80 to $130.
Unincorporated San Diego County
County DPW handles unincorporated areas (Alpine, Ramona, Lakeside, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Valley Center, Borrego Springs). Generally 2 to 4 business days, $90 fee.
We pull any of these permits on your behalf. Tell the rep your address and how long you need it; the permit fee is quoted on the call.
Allowed and Prohibited Materials
Most household and construction debris goes straight in. California is stricter than most states on hazardous and electronic waste. These are not exceptions, the landfill will reject the load.
Allowed
- Construction debris (lumber, drywall, framing)
- Roofing materials and shingles
- Concrete, brick, and stone (clean-load)
- Household junk and furniture
- Yard waste, branches, sod
- Flooring (carpet, tile, hardwood, vinyl)
- Cabinets and countertops
- Non-refrigerant appliances (stoves, dishwashers)
- Mattresses (additional fee per CA state law)
- Drywall, plaster, tile
Prohibited (California rules are strict)
- Hazardous chemicals, paint, solvents (HHW)
- Tires of any size (Cal Tire Recycling Act)
- Lead-acid and lithium batteries
- Refrigerators, AC units, freezers (Freon)
- Asbestos and ACM material
- Medical waste, syringes
- Propane and pressurized tanks
- E-waste like TVs, monitors, computers (California EWRA)
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Treated lumber (CCA, in some MRF zones)
Not sure if something qualifies? Mention it when you call. The rep will tell you yes or no and explain alternatives if it is a no. Mixing prohibited items with regular debris triggers a contamination fee at the landfill.
Recycling rules in San Diego County
San Diego County's diversion target is met through MRFs operated by EDCO in Lemon Grove, Republic Services in Otay, and Allan Company in Chula Vista. Most C&D loads from the City of San Diego must comply with the C&D Debris Recycling Ordinance — projects valued over $50,000 must divert at least 65% of debris and submit a final tonnage report. Your contractor handles the paperwork; we route the bin to the right MRF.
Common San Diego County project types we drop bins for
San Diego ADU additions
Citywide. JADU (Junior ADU) plus one detached ADU is allowed on most SFH lots. Standard 15 or 20-yard for build debris.
Sorrento Valley and UTC biotech build-outs
Lab tenant improvements, clean-room conversions. 30-yard recurring service. Specialized waste streams (chemical, biohazard) are NOT in our bin — those go through licensed haulers separately.
North County coastal remodels
Carlsbad, Encinitas, Cardiff. Older surf-town SFH remodels, kitchen and primary bath. 15-yard typical.
East County roof tear-offs
Tile and shingle, 1,800–2,400 sq ft homes in El Cajon, Santee, Lakeside. 15 or 20-yard.
South Bay new construction
Otay Ranch master-planned communities. Builders run 30-yards on rotation.
Poway and Rancho Bernardo estate cleanouts
Larger lots, multi-decade accumulation. 30 or 40-yard.
Wildfire debris (East County back-country)
Alpine, Ramona, Julian. Phase 2 private haul after government cleanup. FEMA-eligible debris contracts have separate handling rules.
